- Abstract
This article discusses the secondary metabolites found in red pitaya or dragon fruit, specifically in the fruits of Hylocereus polyrhizus. The study highlights the antioxidant capacity of red pitaya juice and its potential benefits in improving dyslipidemia, blood glucose levels, and liver disease progression based on animal studies. The researchers isolated and characterized 13 compounds from the fruit, including steroids, lignans, benzenoids, flavonoids, and a furanone. The document provides detailed information on the properties of each compound, such as appearance, optical rotation, UV absorption, infrared absorption, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra. The investigation was supported by grants from Fooyin University.
