- Abstract
This article presents a case study of a rare occurrence of a large lower thoracic oesophageal lipoma in a 71-year-old male patient. The patient experienced chest discomfort after eating for three months and was diagnosed with a lipoma through gastroscopy and chest CT scan. Due to the patient's symptoms and uncertainty about the tumor's nature, thoracoscopic surgery was performed, and the subsequent pathological analysis confirmed an oesophageal lipoma. The article discusses the rarity of oesophageal lipomas, their typical location, and the indications for surgical intervention. The surgical procedure was successful, and the patient had no complications or recurrence during the follow-up period. The study was supported by the Clinical Medical Research Project of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission and approved by the ethics committee of Huadong Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University.
