- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the situation of Food Insecurity among families of schoolchildren of a municipal school of rural education in a municipality of the Central-South Mesoregion of Paraná and its associated factors. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, consisting of a semi-structured self-administered questionnaire, containing sociodemographic questions and the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale, with the families of students from the first to the fifth year. Results: 53 families were evaluated, of which 49% were food insecure (MI), 26.4% in mild AI and 22.6% in moderate FI. The prevalence of FI was higher in families whose heads of families were women (73.1%), aged over 30 years (61.5%), who had completed/incomplete high school (57.7%), who declared themselves white (76.9%) in households of 4 or more people (53.8%) with family income of more than one minimum wage (57.7%) and who were beneficiaries of some income transfer program (61.8%). Conclusion: Given the increase in FI rates in recent years and the worsening with the Covid-19 Pandemic, it is important to implement policies and programs that aim to monitor and fight FI of families, especially in rural areas.
