- Abstract
Background: Safety is defined as the prevention of mistakes in the provision of care in health services in order to take further action that endangers the life of the patient. Aim: To determine the level of patient safety in selected medical facilities in Slovakia from the aspect of nursing care. Methodology: The research sample consisted of 94 nurses from hospitals in Poprad, Kežmarok and Levoča. The HSOPSC (The Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture) questionnaire was used for data collection. Descriptive and inductive statistics were used to evaluate the empirical part. Results: The results of our research show that the highest percentage of positive responses is observed in the subscale of Information Transfer (86.17 %) and Feedback (75.53 %). The lowest average percentage of positive responses is recorded in the subscale Staffing (54.04 %) and The approach of hospital management (55.32 %). Patient safety is better assessed by nurses with a university degree, specializing in the relevant field of study and nurses with experiencer more than 15 years. Conclusion: Patient safety during hospitalization should be one of the priority providers of nursing care. Monitoring, evaluation and elimination of adverse events and risk factors from the environment, which are an important indicator of the quality of services provided.
