- Abstract
The figures of malnutrition in schoolchildren are alarming, becoming a problem for public health, being a determining factor of food insecurity and other socio-economic characteristics. The analysis related food security in the families with the malnutrition in schoolchildren of schools from Barranquilla. It was a correlational study, in 32 schools, with a sample of 159 children. The instruments used were ELCSA scale, socioeconomic questionnaire and anthropometrics measurements sheet, taking place Chi2 test for relationship statistical analysis, evidencing that 56,6% of the households presented mild insecurity, 17,7% moderate insecurity 8,18% severe food insecurity and 17,6% food security. Values p<0.05 were presented for the associations of nutritional condition with the food and nutritional security, socioeconomic stratum, parents educational level and overcrowding. The results concluded that food insecurity prevails with 82.4% in conjunction with overcrowding, medium-low socioeconomic status and secondary educational level of parents; showing association between these and the nutritional condition.
