- Abstract
The article focuses on issues related to open access to scientific research and scholarship. Open access advocates play to the fears of scientific policymakers when they argue that restricted access to scientific writings has a direct economic cost. The barrier to entry that really matters to authors may be a barrier to getting published, which is a feeling that they are not being treated fairly or taken seriously by the establishment rather than a barrier to getting hold of what is published by others.
