- Abstract
Nanotechnology is a promising technology that offers the potential to design, produce and implement devices and structure on the nanometer scale (a nanometre is one millionth of a millimetre). It provides varied opportunities for the designing novel products and also has vast applications in the food production system. New arenas in the food sector for application of nanotechnology include nano emulsions and nano encapsulation of bioactive food compounds, smart food packaging systems and food quality monitoring with biosensors. Nanotechnology also finds its usefulness in the field of food engineering in food nano sensing and food nanostructured substances. In the former field, nanotechnology can be used to improve food quality and safety evaluation.
