- Abstract
The article presents a study revealing a novel cooperative antiviral activity of two distinct Argonaute (AGO) proteins and suggesting a new strategy for the control of viral diseases in rice. Topics discussed include the established role of AGO1 in rice antiviral immunity under natural infection conditions, AGO18 being required for antiviral immunity, and AGO18's competition with AGO1 for microRNA 168 (miR168) to up-regulate AGO1 upon viral infection.
