- Abstract
The analyses and reflections presented in this article come from research carried out from 2019 to 2021, at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). The question that guided the discussion was: what is the knowledge that professors need to have in order to mediate the teaching-learning process of students with disabilities? The objective of the article is to apprehend, from the dialogue with professors of undergraduate courses from different areas of knowledge at UFU, the knowledge needed to mediate the teaching-learning process of students with disabilities. The liberating progressive education proposed by Freire (1981, 1987, 1996) inspires us to think of inclusive education as a condition of resistance to all forms of segregation. The exploratory research with a qualitative approach supported the construction of data - a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews - based on the dialogue with 8 professors from UFU who taught students with disabilities. In the dialogue with the professors, we inferred that the inclusion of students with disabilities in Higher Education is complex, as professors assume that they did not have, in their initial and continuing education, access to the knowledge necessary to meet the demands of the inclusive educational process and promote quality education for all.
