- Abstract
This article discusses the various cutaneous manifestations that can occur in patients with chronic pancreatitis. These skin changes can serve as diagnostic clues for the underlying pancreatic disease and can also indicate the severity of the condition. The pathogenesis of these skin changes is dependent on the underlying pancreatic pathology, which can result in both exocrine and endocrine insufficiency. The article presents a case series of eight patients with chronic pancreatitis who presented with pale erythema, scaling, peeling of the skin, anasarca, and other associated symptoms. The patients also had laboratory abnormalities such as anemia, hyperglycemia, hypoalbuminemia, and hypoproteinemia. Treatment with pancreatic enzyme supplementation and nutritional support resulted in rapid improvement of symptoms. The article concludes that recognizing these cutaneous signs is important for early diagnosis and appropriate management of pancreatic pathology.
