AKANE KAWAKAMI
- Abstract
An essay is presented in which the author explores how diary-writing can be viewed as a photographic act for French writer Anne Ernaux, creating verbal photographs of her experiences that are then developed into more detailed narratives. Particular attention is given to three diaries Ernaux maintained during 1989, "Se perdre," "Journal du dehors," and "L'Atelier noir," which the author suggests reflect Ernaux's self in a period where she was engaged in an affair with a Russian diplomat.
