- Abstract
Experimental studies in the past have verified that the implementation of air bags as a supplemental restraint system has significantly diminished the rate of fatalities and the seventy of injuries in motor vehicle accidents. However, air bags have also been implicated as the source of various injuries, with facial and orbital injuries identified as those most often observed. This article describes two cases of patients who appear to have suffered acoustic trauma as a result of air-bag deployment. Investigating the otologic safety of these safety devices, this article raises awareness of the possibility of acoustic trauma associated with air-bag deployment.
