- Abstract
The sugar cane is an agricultural activity that had used toxic pesticides for a long time. A tratability study was carry out for biodegradation of a pesticide mixture of 2,4- D, Diuron and Ametryn by using, in continuous flow, a tricking filter and a subsurface wetland in order to find the best couple photocatalitic system. The pesticide mixture studied was similar to the products used in this industry and its physicochemical characteristics were determinated. During the biological degradation of the pesticide mixture, the microorganism had the adequade environmental conditions of temperature, pH and nutrients, so they were not limiting the process. Chemical Oxygen Demand removal obtained were 44,8% and 35,4% for the tricking filter and the subsurface wetland respectively .These results showed that the pesticide mixture of 2,4-D, Diuron and Ametryn were not biodegradable in a tricking filter neither in a subsurface wetland because the toxic effect of these pesticides to the microorganisms. However, the results obtained are very important because if these systems are not effective by themselves for the biodegradation of the pesticide mixture it is possible to couple the tricking filter with an advanced oxidation process (AOP's), where these compounds can be transformed to biodegradable compounds.
