The article discusses the potential social and political implications of innovations in gene-editing technology. Topics explored include the imprisonment of Chinese biophysicist He Jiankui following his reported production of genetically modified human babies, the approval of the three-parent babies produced through in vitro fertilization (IVF) in Great Britain in 2015, and the possible public health risks associated with gene editing in humans.
