- Abstract
The book "Socio-Economics of the Corona Crisis" analyzes the effects of the Corona pandemic on the socio-economic situation. Various aspects such as employment development, short-time work, youth unemployment, and the impact on self-employed individuals are addressed. The authors examine the situation in Germany and other European countries and emphasize the importance of measures such as the SURE program and the European Youth Guarantee. Differences between different groups of employees and genders are also discussed. Furthermore, challenges in the field of occupational safety and health are discussed. A special contribution examines the effects of the pandemic on company training, with a company survey by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) showing that the participation rate has decreased by 50%. It is expected that hybrid forms of work, such as alternating between working from home and in the office, will be permanently established. The pandemic has particularly burdened families with poor financial situations, with school closures affecting students' acquisition of skills. The contribution concludes with an appeal to realign the instrument of short-time work in order to better protect relevant groups of employees. Overall, the contributions provide a comprehensive insight into the socio-economic effects of the pandemic.
