- Title
OCTELA Board Passes Position Statement on Vocabulary Lists.
- Abstract
The article deals with a Position Statement on the Use of Vocabulary Lists to Improve Assessment Performance adopted by the Executive Board of the Ohio Council Teachers of English Language Arts (OCTELA). Since 2003, a resident of Ohio has been requesting that the Ohio State Board of Education to create a word list of vocabulary envelope to be utilized by designers of the state's academic achievement tests. An objective for the vocabulary would be to limit the vocabulary that test designers can use in developing grade level achievement tests. According to OCTELA, the grade level vocabulary lists are counter-intuitive to the natural acquisition of language.
