- Abstract
The article discusses independent Chinese cinema. It states that Chinese films are badly distributed and irregularly circulated in the country and cannot even consider as an element of culture consumption patterns. Nevertheless, Chinese cinema opened its own logical space for discussion by developing an independent set of values based on particular aesthetics grounded in an ethics of representation. It also mentions the factors that greatly enhanced the circulation of information on the Chinese films including the organization of video compact disc (VCD) and DVD videodisc screenings in university facilities, art spaces and exhibitions. Several Chinese films and directors are also mentioned.
