- Abstract
The social representation of a sports city includes some kind of connection from this city with the daily tasks of its inhabitants through the practice of the sports, its urban equipment ready for the physical exercise, its sports victories dedication and support of this activity, its long experience as a sports large city. In the case of Cali, how this social representation was created and what kind of relationship it had with the reality envisaged during that time, which enabled it to be known as the sports capital of America? These are some of the research questions leading this article, which is focused on the most recognized sports events of this city: The VI Pan-American Games, in 1971, analyzed from a sociological view through the concept of the social representation.
