- Abstract
This article explores the role of empathy in the cinematic experience and its potential to elicit prosocial behaviors. It discusses three models of studying cinematic empathy and highlights the embodied nature of our engagement with film. The article emphasizes the transformative potential of film in shaping our moral education and promoting empathy and prosocial actions. It also discusses the concept of cinema of empathy, which prioritizes emotion and shared affective experiences. The article explores the potential transformative effects of empathic responses to films, as well as the ethical and ideological factors that influence these responses. It acknowledges the limitations and problematic aspects of empathy in relation to film and suggests that further research is needed to fully understand its impact.
