- Abstract
In recent years the emergence and evolution of technological developments such as Cyber-Physical Production Systems (CPPS), Internet of Things (IoT) or Cloud Manufacturing (CMfg) have driven the research on the modeling of manufacturing systems. These new approaches are supported by virtual and digital models, which use different techniques and respond to the needs of multiple activities present in the life cycles of the product, manufacturing system and production/supply system. In this context, one of the main objectives of the current research is the standardization and unification of resource modeling, although currently it is very limited to certain domains. A study of the state of the art is presented taking into account this line of work and the new requirements demanded by the new manufacturing paradigms. The main foundations that support the modeling of manufacturing systems and, more specifically, machines-tools are presented The study aims to collect the main approaches proposed on the treatment and formal representation of machine tools, with special emphasis on both proposals that the authors consider as references and those from standarization domain. Based on this analysis, a schema is developed that incorporates the chronological evolution of the modeling of machine tools and the works oriented to their unifying. Finally, an outline of the future orientation of this line of work is also included.
