The article discusses the commercial corporation Hudson's Bay Company's (HBC's) influence on urban growth and urban planning in Winnipeg, Manitoba from the late 1860s through the 1920s. The article often references the HBC Archive (HBCA) at the Archives of Manitoba in Winnipeg. An overview of the HBC's land ownership in Winnipeg, including within the city's Upper Fort Garry, Manitoba district, is provided. The HBC's company stores, including its retail and department stores, are discussed.
