- Title
Identity and coalescence in structured populations: a commentary on ?Inbreeding coefficients and coalescence times? by Montgomery Slatkin.
- Authors
BARTON, N. H.
- Abstract
The article comments on the report "Inbreeding coefficients and coalescence times," by Montgomery Slatkin. A description of the coalescent process is presented. It points out that Slatkin used the relation between the classical theory and the coalescent process to explain the ancestry in structured populations. An overview of the concept of allele identity is given. The article concludes by pointing out the importance of understanding how structure populations evolve.
