- Title
Editorial Comment: Atrial septal defect closure in the adult remains controversial.
- Authors
Ebels, Tjark
- Abstract
The author reflects on the controversial atrial septal defect (ASD) closure in adult patients. He says that patients with shunt and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) must undergo ASD closure regardless of the symptoms as stated in the 2010 European Guidelines. He states that minor bleeding and pericardial effusion are of different magnitude than emergency surgery for pneumonia and failure of catheter intervention.
