- Authors
Connor, Dilece; Hinde, Andrew
- Abstract
The article discusses mortality in early modern England, examining differences between market towns and rural parishes. It examines mortality crises and background levels of mortality. The authors pair ten market towns with rural parishes to compare burial statistics, including average numbers of deaths per year, and use a Poisson model to measure the severity of mortality crises. Plague epidemics are discussed and parishes and towns in counties including Cheshire, Durham, and Kent are considered.
