- Abstract
The article provides information on the arrests, trials, and convictions of various Romanian armed anti-communists from the Făgăraş Mountains associated with Romanian Lieutenant Toma Arnăuţoiu. The group was investigated and arrested by the Securitate, Romania's secret police organization. The inhumane treatment of prisoners during interrogations and incarceration is described. The military tribunals in which many of the anti-communist partisans were sentenced are also detailed. Emphasis is given to the capture, interrogation, and trial of Colonel Gheorghe Arsenescu, who had managed to stay in hiding for a number of years after the capture of the other partisans.
