- Abstract
This project started in 1995 after the Cultural Affairs Council of the Lithuanian-American Community decided to collect the reminiscences of those emigrants who had fled from Lithuania in fearful anticipation of the second Soviet occupation during World War II. Consultants for the project were the historian Dr. Dovydas Fainhauzas and the sociologist Dr. Gražina Budryte. Financial support was provided by the Lithuanian Foundation and the Illinois Arts Council. The aim of the project was to record on tape the experiences and impressions of the war-time exodus, including the flight from Lithuania, the trek to the West, life in Western Europe after the war, and the emigration and finally settlement in the United States of America. In the course of this project 65 conversations were recorded on audio tape. The originals of the collected materiak will be deposited in the World Lithuanian Archives of the Lithuanian Research and Studies Center in Chicago. Copies (in DVD format only) will travel to Lithuania (the VMU Lithuanian Studies Center) and to other U. S. archives.
