- Abstract
Periodic nutritional advice on women with metabolic syndrome Food and nutritional reeducation is important in individuals with metabolic syndrome (MS), and may help improve nutritional indicators. Periodic nutritional counseling, through telecommunications, has received supporters due to the ease of contact in patient and professional, as well as a constant motivation to adhere to the nutritional treatment. The objective of the study was to analyze the effectiveness of periodic nutritional counseling, through cell phone, in diet adherence in women with obesity and MS. A longitudinal control case was studied with 20 participants, 10 women with obesity and a diagnosis of MS (Case Group) and 10 women with obesity without a diagnosis of MS (Control Group). A data collection in two steps, with intervals of one month for each consultation, being oriented the anthropometric indicators, food consumption and biochemical examinations. A nutritional strategy used to develop an individualized diet plan and periodic counseling. Comparing an initial and final evaluation of the case and control groups, they obtained significance as variables for weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC) and Arm Circumference (CB) for the case group. Then for the control group and CC and CB (p <0.05). The dietary intake of obese women and the diagnosis of MS showed high information on lipids and saturated fatty acids, which could interfere with laboratory and anthropometric tests. It is concluded that dietary reeducation associated with periodic nutritional counseling improved the anthropometric indicators, but may be more effective with a longer follow-up of patients with obesity and MS.
