- Title
Sokrates-Preis für Mediation 2022 geht an ukrainisches MediatorInnennetzwerk.
- Abstract
The Ukrainian Mediators and Dialogue Facilitators' Community of Practice has been awarded the Sokrates Prize for Mediation 2022. The network, consisting of over 25 organizations, was established after the start of the war and is involved in various areas such as community dialogues, psychosocial support for refugees, and family mediation. The awardee has contributed to familiarizing the international community with the Ukrainian perspective on dialogue and mediation. In addition, the Mediation Science Prize was awarded to Dr. Judith Stelbrink and the Promotional Prize to lawyer Saskia MacLaughlin. The event was attended by various guests, including Steffen Seibert, the German Ambassador to Israel, and Dr. Martin Wählisch, Head of the Innovation Team in the UN Department of Political Affairs and Peacebuilding in New York. The Mediation Prizes have been regularly awarded by the Centrale für Mediation since 2000, with the non-profit foundation Apfelbaum being the initiator and sponsor of the prizes. The Commercial Courts in Stuttgart have proven to be successful, with around 600 cases and a total dispute value of half a billion euros since November 2020. The average duration of proceedings was approximately 6.5 months, and the rate of appeals was low.
