- Title
Ventriloquizing Rape in Menander's Epitrepontes.
- Authors
GARDNER, HUNTER H.
- Abstract
A literary criticism of the play "Epitrepontes," by Menander is presented. It explores the critical discussion surrounding the play's plots which dealt with the question on how to evaluate attitudes towards and an act of rape. It mentions that Menander offers a vivid articulation of a rape experience which raises the possibility of Athenians conceptualizing sexual assault as a traumatic experience than an act of hubris.
