- Title
Wie gut beschreiben Homogenisierungsprozesse das Verhalten von Materialien mit Mikrostruktur?

- Abstract
The article examines the accuracy of homogenization processes in describing the behavior of materials with microstructure. It discusses how composite materials such as laminates or fiber-reinforced plastics are produced by cleverly combining individual material components at the microscopic level. Homogenization allows for the mathematical prediction of the effective behavior of such composite materials. The article also addresses the homogenization of the wave equation for materials with periodic microstructure. It is shown that classical homogenization is unable to capture the long-term change in waveforms. It is emphasized that homogenization results should be viewed with caution as they may not adequately represent reality.
