- Abstract
The effects of increasing levels of Arachis pintoi foliage at 0, 20 and 40 g/100 g in diet, along with a group fed with commercial feed (CF), on the zootechnical performance in the growthfattening phase of 20 male rabbits (New Zealand x California) recently weaned (40 days old (d)) with similar body weight (710 ± 98.79 g), were studied for eight weeks. The rabbits were placed in an open-sided house with 20 pens (0.5 m3) randomly distributed in a completely randomized design, totaling four treatments with five rabbits each. The evaluated performance parameters were: body weight (g) (BW), feed intake (g), body weight gain (BWG) (g), feed conversion ratio (FC) (g/g). The evaluated economic parameters (Bs) were: cost per kg/body weight (Bs/kg), feed cost/ total feed intake (Bs), production cost (Bs) and benefit-cost ratio. The FC was not affected by treatments (P>0.05) (3.69 ± 0.33 g/g, respectively). The lowest daily feed intake was observed in rabbits fed without inclusion of Arachis pintoi in diet (P<0.0001) (79.07 g/d). However, significant effects of the interaction between time and treatment on BW, on feed intake and on BWG as repeated measures through time (P <0.0001), were found. The inclusion of Arachis pintoi at 40 g/100 g in diet had the lowest cost per kg/ body weight (P=0.0168) (30.06 Bs/kg), feed cost/total feed intake (P<0.0001) (42.05 Bs/experimental phase), production cost (P<0.0001) (64.70 Bs), and the best benefit-cost ratio (P=0.0432) (3.53). The inclusion of Arachis pintoi at 40 g/100 g in the diet did not decrease the growth and zootechnical performance of rabbits.
