- Abstract
The article discusses the long-term consequences of sepsis, a condition resulting from a dysregulated immune response to infection. The study examines the incidence of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) among sepsis survivors compared to survivors of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The results show that sepsis survivors have a significantly higher incidence of IMIDs, with the risk increasing after 16 days from the original sepsis episode. The study suggests that the type of immune dysregulation in sepsis may also contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases. The findings highlight the need for precision immunotherapy to address both short-term and long-term sepsis complications.
