- Abstract
A biography of orchestra conductor Herbert von Karajan is presented. He was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1908 and studied in Vienna to learn the intricacies of opera, choral pieces, and orchestral work. He conducted Richard Wagner's opera "Tristan und Isolde" in 1938 and continued to work in Nazi Germany. He eventually was made director of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Philharmonia. Additionally, the author presents reviews for some of Karajan's recordings.
