- Abstract
Antibiotic resistance is reported all over the world, it compromises the treatment of infectious diseases and is one of the biggest threats to global health. There are two ways in which pathogenic bacteria can develop resistance to antibiotics: vertically, by accumulating genetic changes during the natural process of copying its genome, and horizontally, by changing resistant genes from one microbe to another. The article shows the difference between resistant and anti-infective bacteria, the ways and manifestations, the phases and types of resistance and all the mechanisms related to antibiotics, antifungals and sulfamides.
