- Abstract
The article reports on the adaptive radiation of cichlids in Lake Victoria, East Africa. It states that Lake Victoria, the world's second-largest freshwater lake is home to no fewer than 500 species of cichlids. It notes that cichlids have been thought to have diversified from a handful of species as few as 15,000 years but the menageries was obliterated with the introduction of a much larger predator which is the Nile perch into the lake in the 1960s by humans. It mentions that with the return of the cichlids, researchers start to see how different environments are shaping the dynamics of speciation.
