Title
Evolutionary biology: How girls go solo.
Abstract
The article reports on the study conducted by Tanja Schwander and her colleagues at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia which finds that some species of Timema stick insects reproduce by parthenogenesis. It cites that most stick insects reproduce sexually, however, some unfertilized eggs hatch spontaneously. The study shows that when females cannot find mates, the tendency of spontaneous hatching increases that could lead to full parthogenesis.
