Abstract
The article presents an interview with ETH Zurich professor Erick Carreira who, along with his students, synthesized a complex chlorosulpholipid that has been linked to seafood poisoning and is produced by microalgae stemming from contaminated mussels. When asked why he chose this toxin, Carreira stated that long-chain hydrocarbon lipids are usually simple, but these contained numerous chlorides in complex patterns.
