- Title
Chinese scientists lead panda genome project.
- Abstract
The article reports on the plan of conservation biologists and geneticists to sequence the genome of giant panda in Beijing, China. It claims that the move is due to the loss of habitat, finicky eating habits, diseases and the failure in breeding efforts caused by pandas' disinterest in mating. Moreover, scientists believe that the sequencing project would provide information that can help both groups. Additionally, it is argued that the genome of these pandas contains three billion base pairs, which are suspected to hold the same number of genes as the human genomes.
