- Abstract
The article focuses on the effort of the Chinese government to revamp its drug regulation process by establishing a new set of rules that will take effect on October 1, 2007. The effort is due to the desire of the government to clean the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) after a series of scandals that ended on the execution of Zheng Xiaoyu, former chief of SFDA. Moreover, the government relates that the new set of rules will increase transparency in the agency and place the drug approval system under public scrutiny. However, critics are doubtful the new rules will be able to solve the problems in the regulation process and Nathan Xin Zhang, CEO of Sinocro Partners, relates that the effort is superficial in nature and failed to address the root of the problems.
