- Title
Unamuno, Epistolarity, and the Rhetoric of Transatlantic Hispanism.
- Authors
Venegas, José Luis
- Abstract
The article focuses on the literary implications of Miguel de Unamuno's letter written to Chilean poet Ernesto Guzmán. It is stated that the letter could sum up Unamuno's approach to the complexities of individual subjectivity and the doubts of national identity in post-colonial Spain. It mentioned that the opening quote can also be considered a compact comment on the form that put the Spanish writer's words, a letter. Unamuno displayed his preference for the private letter as a tool to express his ideas and for him, the personal letter becomes an instrument to surpass the party politics of the nation and open up a space where a cohesive collectivity can develop.
