The paper analyses the extent to which advertisements in English print media exploit hedging with a view to making a product more appealing than it really is. The research is corpus-based and it provides quantitative results, i.e. the percentage of advertisements in the corpus that contain hedges. However, it also provides an analysis of certain examples for the sake of illustration.
