- Abstract
In this study, experimental optimization of factors affecting surface roughness in turning of CW724R brass material was investigated. In the study, Taguchi L9 test was carried out considering cutting speed, depth of cut and feed parameters. S-N values were taken as basis in the evaluation of the test results. Three different cutting speeds, three different depths of cut, and three different feed rates were selected in the study. The experiments were carried out on a CNC lathe under vertical and dry cutting conditions and using carbide inserts. In the study, the average surface roughness (Ra) values were measured and the signal noise values were determined in the Taguchi design. According to the results obtained, it was observed that the feed rate was effective on the surface roughness value. The highest surface quality value (the lowest Ra) was obtained at 181 m/min cutting speed, 0.025 depth of cut and 0.08 mm/rev feed conditions.
