Considerazioni sull’isola di Rapa Nui (Pacifico meridionale).

- Abstract
All archaeological, palaeo-botanic and anthropological data collected during numerous expeditions to Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island, South Pacific Ocean) have confirmed an unequivocal verdict that most scientists accept: the Rapanui civilization was the victim of its own destructive fury. This was caused by the obsessive cult of the Moai – their stone statues – on which many vital resources were used up. Overpopulation and an excessive exploitation of natural resources (in particular palm trees) led to the island’s ecological collapse. Furthermore, there follows a discussion on how these colossal statues were transported to the island’s sacred sites from the quarries where they were sculpted.
