- Abstract
In about ten years of observation we carried out ambulatory BP and heart rate recording (A&D 2420) in 1650 untreated and uncomplicated essential hypertensive patients (808 males-842 females). These recordings were subdivided on the basis of the patient's age: Group I, 104 males-72 females, from 35 to 40 years; Group II, 110 M-102 F, 41 to 45 years; Group III, 151 M-125 F, 46 to 50 years; Group IV, 158 M-161 F, 51 to 55 years; Group V, 115 M-117 F, 56 to 60 years; Group VI, 86 M-106 F, 61 to 65 years; Group VII, 53 M-98 F, 66 to 70 years; Group VIII, 31 M-61 F, 71 to 75 years. Heart rate was progressively decreasing throughout the ageing in both males and females, in whom significantly higher values were seen in the younger groups.
