- Abstract
The article presents information on transseptal cardiac catheterization. It is reported that in the current era, electrophysiologists rely on access to the left atrium as a mainstay for the treatment of a number of the arrhythmias. Guidance of the transseptal procedure has become routine either using intracardiac ultrasound (ICUS) as documented in this study or transesophageal echo (TEE). These techniques document the anatomy reliably and facilitate avoidance of entry into nonleft atrial structures such as the ascending aorta and pericardium.
