- Abstract
We present the discovery of a lost Catalan sapiential work, which will be translated into Spanish by Jacob Zadique d'Uclés, in 1402, commissioned by Lorenzo Suarez de Figueroa, master of the Order of Saint James. The work continues to disappear, but there is a documentary testimony of its existence and we could identify it completely and in detail: a book most likely composed in Valencia, between 1390 and 1402, consisting of a selection of wisdom statements from Eiximenis's Dotzè llibre del Crestià (1387), from Boeci's Consolació de filosofia, in Catalan translation by Ginebreda (1390), plus some added proverbs and apothegms. The discovery was made possible, from the preserved translation, by the application of the method of phrasal concordances, very useful for the determination of dependencies, sources and authors.
