On Rip Van Winkle.
- Authors
Capps, David
- Abstract
The article delves into the comparison between Washington Irving's character Rip Van Winkle and the idea of a distant, hypothetical God who has little connection to the changing world, exploring the sense of unfamiliarity and alienation Rip experiences. It combines elements of a short story and a lyric essay, inspired by Irving's writing style, and reflects on the historical context of Irving's life during the Revolutionary War and his creation of a wonderfully weird story.
