The article discusses the highlights of the Race Before Race symposium which was held by the Center for Renaissance and Medieval Studies of the University of Arizona in Tempe on January 18-19, 2019. Topics discussed include the emergence of conduct literature in 16th- and 17th-century England from the perspective of writer Patricia Akhimie, research on the African American church in premodernity by Dorothy Kim, and a discussion between Seeta Chaganti and Shokoofeh Rajabzadeh on anti-racism.
