- Abstract
Women in leadership positions in East and West Germany: According to a study by the Economic and Social Sciences Institute (WSI) of the Hans-Böckler Foundation, the proportion of women in leadership positions in East Germany is 31% and in West Germany is 26%. On the second level of management, the proportion of women in East Germany is 46%, while in West Germany it is 39%. Another study by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) shows that measures to promote gender equality can reduce the wage gap between men and women by 2.5 percentage points, but only in West Germany. The Nobel Prize in Economics 2023 goes to Harvard professor Claudia Goldin, who has analyzed historical data on women's labor market participation and developed explanatory models. Her research is intended to contribute to a better understanding of labor markets.
