- Abstract
The article deals with the modification of the heterocycle isoalloxazine, which forms the central tricyclic structure of the cofactors of flavoenzymes. The authors, led by Golo Storch, investigate how the molecular flavins can be modified to utilize their reactivity for sustainable synthesis. They were able to develop a flavin-catalyzed method for single-electron reductions and develop an organocatalytic halogenase by activating atmospheric oxygen. Furthermore, they investigate the formation of covalent flavin intermediates and emphasize the importance of the isoalloxazine core of flavins for the identification of new catalytic solutions. Golo Storch is a group leader at the Technical University of Munich and was awarded the Aduc Prize in 2023.
